Recent Research Interests

My current research fields are twofold. One is research into how Christians should take part in activities that aim toward realization of inclusive society, in which the dignity of all persons is preserved. I am especially interested in critical exploration of the question; what kind of Christian identity is needed for actualizing such a society? I am concerned about identity not only because it is important for human beings, but also because identity has been used to draw and harden border lines between “we” and “they” in order to legitimize domination and discrimination of “others.” The other field of research interest is the history of Japan-Korea Christian relations. Within this field, I am currently focused on the history of Korean Christians in Japan, who live in the gaps (upon the borders) between Japan and South/North Korea. Hereafter, I intend to broaden my study and pursue research into the history of contacts and solidarity between Japanese and Korean Christians.
