Recent Research Interests

My research interests cover a wide range of topics in English linguistics, especially those focusing on English words and phrases. As learners of English, we often come up with questions about English words and phrases; for example, why synonymous words behave differently, why particular words have changed their syntactic behavior throughout the history of English, why particular phrases show idiosyncratic behavior, and so on. Based on authentic data from a wide variety of sources, I try to clarify the regularities as well as irregularities of the English language. My research lays a foundation for understanding English as a foreign language, leading to the improvement and refinement of dictionaries and grammar references.
