Recent Research Interests

The research fields I have been interested in most are phonetics and phonology in linguistics, that is, the study of sounds. I have long been engaged in studying the syllable among other things. Since the syllable as a linguistic unit is full of mysteries, there is not yet any decisive theory to define it with, thus there have been proposed various theories such as autosegmental phonology, natural phonology, optimality theory, dependency phonology, government phonology, and so on. One of the goals of my studies is to fully understand what the syllable is and how it functions in the production and perception of sounds.
