Recent Research Interests
My research is in the field of Mandarin studies as a foreign language, specifically the pragmatics analysis on sentence and phrase structures. Intention of speech can control which sentence will be chosen from several different structures. I focus on what kind of syntactic structure can express appropriately and what kind of word can be used in a structure from a pragmatics view. I am currently interested in the negative forms in Mandarin. Not every sentence can be changed into its negative form directly and some sentences almost only can be used as affirmative forms even their negative forms also exist. I approach the pragmatics analysis on the necessary conditions for a well-formed negative sentence in a real speech act.
