Recent Research Interests
I have three main research interests. First, I am interested in international trade of wastes and second-hand products. Both exporting and importing countries gain from trade, while those trade sometimes causes environmental and health problems in importing countries. Thus, it is important for these countries to devise proper international trade rules and recycling policies. Second, I am also interested in trade and patent/antitrust law. Harmonization of these law and institutions has been discussed for the last few decades among member countries of the World Trade Organization, because it is critical for these countries to insure a level playing field. It is challenging for economists to investigate the effect of harmonization on international trade and competition. Finally, I have been focusing on common-pool resource management. In particular, I carry out field experiments in local villages and observe behavior and preferences of village people. The results help village people design schemes of voluntary resource management.
